Oliver Fisher

Oliver is an Upper GI & Hepatobiliary surgeon who works as a Consultant Surgeon at St George Public and Private Hospital.

He is a keen academic surgeon with a research interest in patient prognostication, surgical outcomes analysis and Barrett’s oesophagus – in particular in obese patients undergoing bariatric surgery.

Originally from Switzerland, he completed his medical degree at the University of Zurich, and holds an M.D. from the same institutions from his research years in Professor Pierre-Alain Clavien’s hepatobiliary laboratory. He subsequently trained as a General Surgery registrar in Professor Clavien’s unit, to then migrate to Australia in 2013 and completed his PhD from UNSW in prognostic biomarkers in Barrett’s oesophagus and oesophageal adenocarcinoma under the tutelage of Professor Reginald V. Lord. He then completed his advanced and subspecialty fellowship training in peritoneal oncology, hepato-pancreato-biliary, oesophago-gastric and bariatric surgery at both St George and Royal Prince Alfred from 2016 – 2021.

He obtained his FRACS by examination in 2021 after which he joined the Upper GI Surgery Unit at St George Hospital as a VMO.
